Positioned on a busy crossroads in Basel, the open competition asked for an ambition amount of office and research space on a compact site for collaborative working. The initial focus was to create a dynamic and iconic building volume for the crossroads, composed of a compact, efficient and flexible volume for office spaces with a glass tube with spiral stair and lift to express the dynamics of working together. The slender steel structure and aluminium façade attempt to provide a contemporary aesthetic and economically sustainable materials in addition to providing flexible solar panels as an extra element. A low-tech approach was developed for the environmental controls of the spaces, with thermal mass through a few key structural elements and light construction.
